Fish immunology has increasingly become a critical research area due to the ecological and economic importance of fish, their susceptibility to infectious diseases, and their potential as models for immune system evolution and biomedical studies. While there is significant evidence illustrating diverse immune mechanisms in fish, many aspects of their immune regulation, response to emerging pathogens, and evolutionary adaptations remain poorly understood. Recent studies have identified key features of innate and adaptive immunity, signaling pathways, genetic regulation, and pathogen-host interactions in fish species. Nevertheless, a detailed understanding is still lacking regarding the comparative variability of immune strategies among different fish lineages, their evolutionary origins, and how environmental challenges influence immune dynamics.

This Research Topic aims to explore the most recent advances in understanding the complexities and evolutionary dynamics of immune responses specifically among fish species. We particularly aim to highlight studies addressing essential questions about immune regulation, genetic factors involved, host-pathogen interactions, immune adaptation, disease resistance, and vaccines targeting relevant pathogens that affect fish health.

To gather further insights within the boundaries of fish immunology, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Comparative immunological studies among different fish species

• Evolutionary perspectives on immune system adaptations in fish
