Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) represents a significant public health issue globally, affecting over 10% of the population and increasingly recognized for its associations with musculoskeletal conditions. One of the most impactful conditions is osteosarcopenia, defined by the simultaneous presence of sarcopenia—characterized by progressive muscle loss, weakness, and functional impairment—and osteoporosis, with bone fragility and increased fracture risk. Recent studies underscore the significance of osteosarcopenia as a major contributor to adverse outcomes in CKD patients, including physical disability, cardiovascular complications, diminished quality of life, increased hospitalization rates, and higher mortality. Despite the growing awareness, critical gaps persist concerning the precise biological mechanisms linking CKD to osteosarcopenia, clear diagnostic standards specifically adapted to CKD patients, and effective targeted interventions to mitigate this syndrome.

This Research Topic aims to improve our understanding of osteosarcopenia in CKD, clarify its underlying mechanisms, optimize diagnostics tailored specifically for the CKD population, and identify effective interventions that could mitigate or reverse its progression. It seeks to explore key questions including how CKD influences muscle-bone interactions, what biomarkers or imaging modalities may anticipate and track osteosarcopenia in CKD effectively, and whether interventions such as nutrition adaptation, targeted exercise programs, and pharmacological therapies significantly improve outcomes.

To gather further insights within the context of osteosarcopenia in CKD, we welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, meta-analyses, and perspective papers addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
