Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) continues to grow as one of the most significant public health threats of our time, known as the silent pandemic. AMR respects no borders, not between countries, nor between humans, animals, plants, and the environment. Hence, tackling AMR effectively requires a broader, connected perspective that considers the many ways in which these worlds interact, which is why a One Health approach becomes essential.

This Research Topic, aims to bring together research from different fields to better understand how AMR moves, evolves, and impacts ecosystems as a whole. We’re particularly interested in studies focused on the human-animal-environment interface, aiming to shed light on resistance dissemination across farms, rivers, cities, and communities.

This topic hopes to foster collaborations between microbiologists, veterinarians, clinicians, ecologists and public health professionals. By sharing diverse perspectives and field-based evidence, we aim to contribute to practical, sustainable solutions to the AMR crisis, solutions that reflect the complexity of the problem and the interconnected nature of our health.

This Research Topic aims to explore antimicrobial resistance through a One Health approach, highlighting the connections between human, animal, food, and environmental health. We seek to gather diverse, multidisciplinary studies that examine how resistance emerges, spreads, and impacts different ecosystems. To build a comprehensive understanding of this global challenge, we welcome contributions that explore a wide range of topics, including:

• The surveillance of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and resistance genes in different ecosystems.

• How resistance emerges and spreads between people, animals, food, and the environment.

• The influence of agriculture, food systems, and environmental factors on the development of resistance.

• Risk assessments, transmission models, and innovative strategies that approach AMR as an ecological issue.

• One Health-based interventions and stewardship programs aimed at limiting the spread of resistance locally or globally.

• Studies using genomic, metagenomic, or other molecular approaches to trace resistance pathways.
