Nanoparticles derived from natural and biocompatible substrates have revolutionized the biomedical field, offering the potential to address complex diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. These organic nanoparticles, utilizing lipids, polysaccharides, cyclodextrins, micelles, peptides, and nanogels, have demonstrated the ability to carry multiple agents, enhancing both diagnostic precision and therapeutic efficacy. Current evidence highlights their superior biocompatibility and reduced toxicity, making them attractive candidates for several biomedical applications. Despite the significant advancements, there remain questions regarding their long-term safety, optimal design for targeted delivery, and efficacy across various medical conditions.

Recent studies have explored innovative formulations of nanoparticles that incorporate functional elements, such as luminescent, paramagnetic, or radioactive probes for diagnostic use, alongside specific therapeutic agents. These studies underline the diverse chemical and biological characterization techniques necessary to ensure controlled nanoparticle properties. However, further research is warranted to optimize these systems, ensuring consistent performance across different environments and broader clinical applicability.

This Research Topic aims to deepen our understanding of the integration of luminescent, paramagnetic, or radioactive probes within organic nanoparticle formulations. By exploring cutting-edge characterization techniques, we seek to expand the knowledge base surrounding their biomedical potential. The objective is to inspire interdisciplinary collaborations that will foster breakthroughs in nanoparticle design and application.
