Cognitive research remains a pivotal area of study as the global prevalence of cognitive impairment continues to grow, driven largely by an aging population. This impairment ranges from mild cognitive decline to severe forms like dementia, significantly contributing to the global disease burden and affecting individuals' quality of life. Despite progress in understanding cognitive impairment's underlying pathology, current tools and strategies are insufficient, and disease-modifying treatments have yet to be identified. The challenge lies in its heterogeneity and the myriad of underlying causes, necessitating a comprehensive examination through diverse disciplines to develop effective interventions and solutions.

This Research Topic aims to foster high-quality interdisciplinary studies that enhance our understanding of cognitive impairment. By integrating perspectives across neuroscience, psychology, social sciences, and related fields, the initiative seeks to unravel the complexities underlying cognitive disorders and investigate contributing factors. The ultimate goal is to enhance tools for assessment, diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation, thereby promoting better daily functioning and improving the quality of life for individuals impacted by cognitive impairment.

To gather further insights in this interdisciplinary context, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Comprehensive exploration of cognitive impairment's prevalence, risk factors, manifestations, and prognosis across various disciplines and species.
- Development of innovative strategies to prevent or slow the progression of cognitive impairment.
- Creation of novel methods for assessing, screening, diagnosing, and managing cognitive impairment.
- Implementation of multifaceted interventions to enhance cognitive functioning and address related symptoms.
- Multidisciplinary approaches to preserve daily functioning and improve quality of life for those affected.
