Vertigo and tinnitus are common issues that significantly impact quality of life and can often lead to psychiatric symptoms. Given the various potential causes of both conditions, a multidisciplinary approach to management is essential. Beyond peripheral and central vestibular disorders such as Ménière disease, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, vestibular neuritis, and vestibular migraine, there are many other potential causes of vertigo that require a comprehensive diagnosis. To assess vestibular function, several methods can be employed, including video head impulse testing, caloric testing, and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials. However, while these methods can aid in diagnosis, they cannot provide a definitive diagnosis on their own, and questions remain regarding their specific roles in the evaluation process. The psychiatric and neuropsychologic effects of both vertigo and tinnitus should not be overlooked. There is a significant correlation between tinnitus and vestibular disorders, though tinnitus can also occur independently. Therefore, audiological assessments play a crucial role in the neurotological differential diagnosis. Various questionnaires have been developed to evaluate the quality of life related to vertigo and tinnitus. However, their validation in different languages remains incomplete, and their clinical applicability should be monitored.

Due to the complex nature of tinnitus and vertigo, a thorough assessment is essential. In addition to a detailed and structured history, this evaluation should include not only standard neurotological and audiological tests but also additional methods such as laboratory testing and medical imaging. It is also important to assess any psychiatric symptoms and cognitive impairment that may be present. To analyse the impact of vertigo and tinnitus on quality of life and psychiatric conditions, it is crucial to monitor the clinical usability of validated survey instruments/questionnaires and detect any correlations with the results of other examinations. Understanding the relationships between vertigo and audiological symptoms, such as tinnitus and hearing loss, is vital. Therefore, both subjective and objective audiometry should be considered in the assessment process. This Research Topic aims to address the need for improved, multidisciplinary approaches to the management of tinnitus and vertigo, integrating recent advances in diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. In doing so, we aim to improve patient outcomes and quality of life for individuals affected by these complex disorders.
