This Research Topic aims to advance understanding of climate change as a critical determinant of cardiometabolic health and to stimulate prevention, adaptation, and policy approaches that reduce health risks and strengthen resilience. This Research Topic brings together research that explores how climate conditions impact the burden, distribution, and dynamics of cardiometabolic diseases. While the health impacts of climate change have become increasingly evident, an extended evidence base on underlying effect dynamics and heterogeneities is pivotal to overcome remaining research gaps and provide important evidence for public health policymaking.

We invite submissions that document the short and longer-term effects of climate-related exposures—such as heatwaves, wildfire smoke, extreme weather events—on cardiometabolic outcomes. Thereby, we are interested in work on exposures at all life stages – from exposures during pregnancy to health effects among the elderly. Papers may focus on observational studies, cohort analyses, modeling approaches, or systematic reviews that provide empirical or theoretical insight into how climate change-related factors influence incidence, progression, or severity.

This issue particularly welcomes research addressing:

• The direct health impacts of temperature extremes on chronic diseases.

• Climate-related behavioral and social determinants of cardiometabolic diseases, including physical activity, nutrition, displacement, and stress.

• Health disparities and vulnerability: how socio-economic status, geography, age, gender, and pre-existing health conditions mediate and modify the impact of climate exposures on cardiometabolic outcomes.

• Regional and global burden projections under various climate change scenarios.

• Evaluation of public health interventions and policies aimed at mitigating climate-related cardiometabolic risks.

We encourage submissions from diverse geographic contexts, especially from low- and middle-income countries where both climate vulnerabilities and cardiometabolic burden are rising rapidly. Multidisciplinary approaches involving public health, environmental science, epidemiology, medicine, and the social sciences are especially welcome.
