Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, pose significant challenges to global public health, affecting cognitive processes and featuring a progressive decline of several brain functions. The search for effective interventions is ongoing, with recent focus turning towards the potential benefits of food supplements and nutraceuticals on cognitive functions and brain health due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuromodulatory properties. Emerging research suggests these dietary additions might influence the physiopathogenic processes underlying brain health, cognitive aging, and neurodegenerative diseases, potentially offering neuroprotection and symptom management. However, the diversity in compounds, varied mechanisms of action, and the inconsistency in clinical trials underline the complexity of their effectiveness.

This Research Topic seeks to highlight recent developments and existing knowledge in promoting brain health and cognitive processes with the use of food supplements and nutraceuticals in various human neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), with a highlight on clinical implications, therapeutic possibilities, and molecular mechanisms. The nutraceuticals under consideration include polyphenols, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and other bioactive compounds.

To gather further insights into the impact of food supplements and nutraceuticals on neurodegenerative diseases, we welcome submissions across a diverse range of manuscript types supported by the journal (including Brief Research Reports, Protocols, Review and Mini-Review, Original Research, etc.). These manuscripts should explore, but not be limited to, the following themes:
