Perceptual learning is a fundamental area of research in visual neuroscience, focusing on the processes through which sensory experiences lead to long-lasting improvements in perception and performance. Currently, pivotal questions revolve around understanding the underlying cognitive and neural changes that occur with perceptual learning. Despite significant advancements, gaps remain in deciphering the detailed mechanisms and identifying the full range of practical applications. Recent studies have illuminated some path-breaking findings, unveiling the brain's adaptive capabilities and the role of neural plasticity. However, the picture is not complete, and there is a compelling need for further investigation to unlock the complexities of perceptual learning fully.

This Research Topic aims to explore the multifaceted aspects of perceptual learning, advancing from basic science to clinical applications. We aim to address questions surrounding the cognitive processes and neural changes associated with perceptual learning and integrate these with theoretical modeling efforts. Additionally, the goal is to extend these insights into practical applications, particularly in clinical settings, to harness the potential of perceptual learning for therapeutic purposes. By synthesizing findings across multiple domains, we hope to foster a deeper understanding of how perceptual learning occurs and how it can be effectively utilized.
