The field of intensive care medicine is rapidly evolving, with a significant focus on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) for improved patient outcomes. The deployment of AI-based diagnostic tools and risk assessment scores is revolutionizing clinical decision-making, particularly within intensive care units (ICUs). Traditional models effectively address syndromes like Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) and sepsis, yet they fall short in adequately integrating intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) into their frameworks. As both a cause and effect of SIRS and sepsis, IAH and ACS present intertwined challenges that are further complicated by the potential for primary and secondary damage due to the high-pressure environment within the abdomen. Despite advancements in data precision and model reliability, the need to refine detection methods for these abdominal crises remains pressing.

This Research Topic aims to develop innovative, multimodal strategies for the early detection and management of IAH and ACS, with a particular emphasis on pediatric and neonatal populations. The goals include identifying specific humoral and cellular biomarkers indicative of critical abdominal pressure stages, automating their detection, and establishing non-invasive, real-time procedures to track intra-abdominal pressure changes. Additionally, there is a focus on refining intervention timing to deploy treatments that optimally reduce abdominal pressure and associated complications. By addressing these objectives, the research aims to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tools, thereby improving timely patient intervention and outcomes.

To gather further insights in the realm of IAH and ACS within pediatric and neonatal care, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
