Driven by the pressing challenge of managing infectious outbreaks, recent innovations have transformed viral diagnostics across various applications, from clinical and environmental monitoring to epidemiological surveillance. This surge in innovation has resulted in a plethora of new tools and methodologies designed to significantly enhance viral detection and tracking.

This Research Topic aims to assemble pioneering research on biotechnological advances revolutionizing viral pathogen identification and monitoring. It will stress the convergence of biology, engineering, and data science as a foundation for next-generation diagnostics. Specific focuses include the development of novel molecular diagnostics, like real-time PCR, isothermal amplification methods, and CRISPR-based systems, which are gaining traction due to their programmability and efficiency.
