Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare and potentially life-threatening blood disorder characterized by thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, and end organ dysfunction due to diffuse microthrombi formation. Despite significant advances in understanding the deficient activity of the enzyme ADAMTS13 in TTP patients, significant challenges persist surrounding prompt recognition of the disease in the context of swift and accurate diagnosis. As TTP can be confused with other thrombotic microangiopathies (TMAs), distinguishing diagnostic features are urgently needed to prevent delays in treatment especially since its symptomatology can overlap other etiologies. This is made more challenging due to ADAMTS13 testing not being available at most institutions due to the disease rarity, depending upon reference laboratories to perform the testing. Thus, treatment is often initiated in the absence of timely results. It is in this setting, that this Research Topic aims to address the existing gaps in TTP diagnosis by exploring novel biomarkers and innovative testing methodologies that will contribute to more efficient and effective diagnosis and treatment.

To gather further insights in the limitations of current diagnostic methods and potential biomarker efficacy, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Comparative studies of TTP and other TMAs

• New technological advancements in TTP diagnostics and testing

• Molecular studies of TTP

• Evaluation of treatment monitoring once disease achieves remission

• Triggers for disease relapse

We welcome various types of articles, including original research, reviews, and even though we do not encourage submissions of case reports, these will be considered if presented in the context of a comprehensive review of the relevant literature.
