Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) comprise a heterogeneous group of tumors that arise from diverse anatomical sites, including the gastroenteropancreatic system, lungs, thyroid, adrenal medulla, extra-adrenal paraganglia, and the pituitary gland. Despite their common neuroendocrine features, these tumors display vastly different clinical behaviors, molecular landscapes, and prognostic profiles. In recent years, rapid advances in molecular biology, diagnostic technologies, and systems biology have deepened our understanding of NENs. However, major gaps persist in their classification, early detection, prognostic assessment, and biological stratification.

This Research Topic aims to explore aspects of NEN research ranging from fundamental biology to translational models and clinical diagnostics across the entire spectrum of NEN types. By encouraging interdisciplinary contributions, this topic seeks answers that clarify the molecular complexity and diagnostic challenges of NENs and promote a more nuanced, biology-driven stratification of patients.
