Many respiratory diseases are asymptomatic in early stages, leading to delayed detection. Meanwhile, chronic conditions like COPD and pulmonary fibrosis lack curative treatments, causing huge burden on patient. Further, risk factors which contribute to disease progression vary in daily life, but physicians often lack available preventive strategies and neglect to personalize therapies.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used to manage respiratory conditions for centuries, offering unique strengths that complement modern medical approaches. TCM emphasizes individualized therapy based on pattern differentiation, addressing not only symptoms but also root causes and systemic imbalances. Also, TCM focuses on strengthening the body’s defences, offering multiple prevention and long-term treatment strategies.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing respiratory healthcare by enabling real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and personalized treatment. IoT-enabled devices can track lung function in real time. Furthermore, IoT improves diagnostic accuracy by aggregating data from multiple sources, which also helps to detect early signs of disease. TCM and IoT are hardly mutually exclusive. In fact, diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease needs more integrative strategies to tackle current problems.

This Research Topic aims at utilizing more integrative strategies to manage respiratory disease. Problems below are what this topic intend to solve. Early and accurate diagnosis strategies, which can detect minor symptoms and help to distinguish from other diseases, are badly needed for respiratory disease. Meanwhile, physicians require more effective treatment for chronic symptoms with fewer side effects.
