Offshore renewable energy—especially offshore wind, wave, and tidal power—is emerging as a cornerstone in the global effort to decarbonize electricity generation. These resources offer high capacity factors and vast potential, especially for coastal and island nations. As the scale of offshore deployment increases, so does the complexity of its electric power infrastructure. Offshore environments pose unique technical challenges for electrical energy generation, conversion, transmission, and integration into the onshore grid. Key enablers of these systems include advanced power electronics, subsea transmission networks, offshore substations, and robust grid control strategies tailored for variable renewable generation under harsh marine conditions.

The goal of this Research Topic is to present recent advancements and innovative solutions in the area of electric power systems for offshore renewable energy. It will provide a platform for researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to share insights on the design, modeling, control, and operation of offshore electrical infrastructures. Contributions are sought that address efficient energy conversion, reliable subsea transmission, grid compliance, and power quality management. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of power electronics, HVDC and MVDC technologies, offshore substations, and hybrid energy systems integrating storage or hydrogen production. The issue also aims to explore digital technologies—such as monitoring, diagnostics, and intelligent control—that enhance the performance and resilience of offshore electric power networks.

This Research Topic invites original research papers and comprehensive reviews related to electric power systems in offshore renewable energy applications. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
