The field of display technologies is experiencing a revolutionary shift driven by the integration of advanced nanomaterials. Traditional LCD and OLED systems have encountered significant limitations, particularly in the realms of color purity, energy efficiency, and mechanical flexibility. Recent advancements in nanotechnologies, such as quantum dots (QDs), perovskite nanocrystals, and flexible nanostructured electrodes, offer dynamic solutions. These cutting-edge nanomaterials, with their tunable optoelectronic properties, near-unity quantum yields, and potential for solution processing, propel the development of next-generation displays. This paves the way for visual interfaces with expansive color gamut exceeding 120% of NTSC, ultra-high definition resolutions of over 2000 pixels per inch (PPI), and the possibility of flexible, deformable forms. The ongoing research and innovations in nanoscale engineering are pivotal to redefining and expanding the horizons of visual display technologies.

This Research Topic aims to address the critical challenges that impede the commercialization of nanomaterial-based displays. The key areas of concern include the stability of perovskite QDs under thermal and ultraviolet-induced degradation, the scalability and cost-effectiveness of vacuum processes required for nano-electromagnetic interference (EMI) films, and the efficiency loss observed in stretchable electrodes.
