Environmental chemistry plays a foundational role in shaping our understanding of the interactions between chemistry and the environment, impacting sectors from pollution control to sustainable energy solutions. Over recent decades, environmental issues such as climate change, water contamination, and air pollution have underscored the need for innovative scientific approaches. Despite growing awareness of the importance of diversity in STEM, women continue to be underrepresented, particularly in senior roles, and their contributions often go unrecognized. Empowering women and highlighting their work in environmental chemistry not only fosters equality but also amplifies scientific innovation and societal impact.

The primary goal of this Research Topic is to bring to light the scientific achievements and ongoing contributions of women in environmental chemistry. By providing a dedicated platform, we aim to dismantle systemic barriers and inspire the next generation of female chemists. This initiative seeks manuscripts that showcase outstanding research, innovative methodologies, and meaningful applications led by women in this field. Furthermore, this Topic intends to encourage constructive dialogue around mentorship, leadership, and policies that nurture female talent, thereby driving progress toward a more balanced and inclusive scientific community.

This Research Topic would like to highlight female contributions to Environmental Chemistry and will therefore welcome:

• General perspectives on a specific field of research inspired, started or sparked by a woman
• Articles celebrating outstanding female researchers and their contributions to Environmental Chemistry
• Environmental Chemistry studies led by women
