Low-grade gliomas (LGGs) are a notable subset of neuroepithelial tumors originating from glial cells within the central nervous system (CNS). These tumors are characterized by their slow growth and cytological atypia, yet pose a significant risk of malignant transformation, with over 70% advancing to anaplastic gliomas or secondary glioblastomas within a decade of diagnosis. LGGs account for approximately 17% to 22% of all brain tumors, with median survival rates ranging between 5.6 to 13.3 years. Although universally accepted treatment protocols are lacking, early surgical intervention is commonly advocated, as it has been associated with improved survival outcomes. Recent advancements in surgical methods and laboratory diagnostics have improved survival rates and quality of life for LGG patients. However, several challenges remain in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), such as limited access to these advancements and inconsistent adoption of best practices. The biomolecular profiling of LGGs significantly influences their management and outcomes, emphasizing the necessity of evaluating recent diagnostic and therapeutic advances in these countries and worldwide.

This Research Topic aims to synthesize novel therapeutic guidelines and improvements in functional outcomes derived from various original research studies, clinical trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and perspectives focusing on LGGs in LMICs and worldwide. By assembling this body of work, we hope to identify critical gaps and opportunities for further enhancement in the management of LGGs. It is essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of how management practices vary according to the histopathological and biomolecular profiles of LGGs.

To gather further insights into the management of low-grade gliomas in LMICs and worldwide, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Neuropathology and molecular profiles of low-grade gliomas
- Targeted therapies for LGGs
- Current guidelines and practices for LGG treatment
- Functional outcomes of LGG survivors based on treatment modalities

Please note that manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics or computational analysis of public genomic or transcriptomic databases that are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are out of the scope of this Research Topic.
