Intravenous fosfomycin (IVFOF) is becoming increasingly utilized for the treatment of severe infections; however, its broader adoption is often limited by the risk of adverse events (AEs). This Research Topic aims to address pressing and unresolved questions regarding the risk factors for AEs and the potential benefits of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in their mitigation.

Although initial results are promising, gaps remain in our understanding of the relationship between IVFOF dosing, patient clinical severity, and the occurrence of AEs. We invite submissions that analyze real-world data to identify predictive markers for AEs and investigate the role of TDM in modifying therapeutic strategies. Areas of particular interest include the pharmacokinetics of IVFOF, the influence of intensive care unit (ICU) settings and septic shock on drug safety, and the value of TDM for real-time patient monitoring.
