Frontiers in Psychiatry is proud to launch this year's Women in Psychiatry: Aging Psychiatry collection to showcasing recent research advances from researchers identifying as women across the entire breadth of Aging Psychiatry - presenting advances in theory, experiment, and methodology.

This Research Topic is seeking submissions focused on the mechanisms leading to and/or the impacts of mental health in later life. Suggested topics are related to diagnosis and treatment (biomarkers, personalized medicine, pharmacodynamics, treatment efficacy, and side effects), disease course and mechanisms (comorbidity, disease models, illness onset and progression, and the link between mechanisms and treatment response), prevention and risk factors (cognitive and neural resilience, impact of preventive measures on neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, and the role of lifestyle factors) and specific challenges (motor activity, rehabilitation, traditional medicine approaches, and reducing healthcare costs through improved social support and treatment). All article types supported by the journal are welcome for submission into this Research Topic.

At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research in particular. Science and gender equality are essential to ensure sustainable development. In order to change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.

Please note: to be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a researcher who identifies as a woman.
