The field of nanomaterials has experienced remarkable developments in recent years, particularly with the integration of functional carbon materials and two-dimensional (2D) nanocomposites. These materials have captured significant attention due to their distinctive physicochemical properties, high surface area, tunable electronic structure, and potential applications across diverse domains such as energy storage, sensing, catalysis, and biomedicine. Despite the progress made, the complete understanding of the interplay between functional carbon and 2D materials within nanocomposites remains incomplete, illuminating a vibrant area for investigation.

Current efforts in the realm of nanocomposites are focused on exploiting the synergistic effects that arise when combining functional carbon materials with 2D counterparts. These composites merge desirable features from both classes, resulting in augmented performance across multiple applications. For example, the incorporation of graphene with MoS₂ results in superior electrochemical characteristics, enhancing the efficiency of supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries. Meanwhile, the fusion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with MXenes facilitates improved mechanical flexibility and conductivity, pivotal for the advancement of flexible electronics. Despite such advancements, further research is required to tailor these materials for industrial-scale applications and to elucidate their underlying mechanisms.
