Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, cancer, and chronic respiratory conditions account for a significant portion of the global health burden. These diseases are intricately linked through modifiable lifestyle factors, where aspects like physical inactivity, poor dietary habits, harmful behaviors, and prolonged stress can induce metabolic dysfunction long before clinical symptoms appear. Although therapeutic advancements have been made, there’s an acknowledged deficiency in implementing lifestyle modifications as fundamental disease-modifying strategies. While these diseases persist as dominant challenges of the 21st century, lifestyle factors remain their most preventable causes and promising solutions. Despite advances in medicine, the rising prevalence of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and lifestyle-related cancers highlights the disconnect between scientific understanding and practical application. Healthcare systems often prioritize treatment over prevention; socio-economic disparities restrict access to healthier lifestyle choices; and novel research is uncovering intricate connections between lifestyle habits and disease development.

This Research Topic aims to bridge these gaps by gathering breakthrough evidence on how lifestyle factors influence metabolic health, the effectiveness of various interventions, and how these can be implemented in diverse communities. By leveraging insights from recent advances in nutrigenomics, wearable tech, and behavioral science, we aim to transition lifestyle medicine from theoretical constructs to tangible solutions. We invite multidisciplinary submissions that propel this transition, providing clinicians, researchers, and policymakers with actionable strategies to mitigate the chronic disease epidemic.
