The escalating concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) is a central driver of climate change, prompting urgent global efforts to mitigate emissions and transition toward sustainable carbon management. Carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technologies have emerged as critical components in this strategy, offering pathways to reduce industrial emissions, enhance resource efficiency, and enable negative emissions. Recent years have witnessed a surge in research focused on advanced materials and novel engineering approaches that promise to revolutionise the performance, scalability, and economic viability of CCUS systems. From porous adsorbents and catalytic frameworks to bio-inspired solutions and electrochemical processes, the landscape of CO₂ management is rapidly evolving.

This Research Topic aims to spotlight cutting-edge developments in materials science and technology that address the multifaceted challenges of CO₂ capture, utilisation, and storage. We seek contributions that explore innovative materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), ionic liquids, and nanostructured sorbents designed to enhance selectivity, capacity, and regeneration efficiency. Additionally, we welcome studies on emerging utilisation pathways, including CO₂ conversion to fuels, chemicals, and building materials, as well as advanced storage techniques such as mineralisation and subsurface sequestration.
