Physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) present critical challenges and opportunities in the field of public health, where targeted strategies are needed to combat rising incidences of chronic diseases, mental health issues, and a decrease in life quality due to inactivity. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these problems, especially among vulnerable groups, highlighting the necessity for evidence-based interventions tailored to specific populations. While public health guidelines provide a general framework, they often fall short in addressing the unique needs and barriers faced by diverse groups. Despite technological advancements and shifting work patterns presenting both barriers and openings for encouraging PA, substantial gaps persist in understanding and implementing effective interventions across different demographics.

This Research Topic aims to generate evidence tailored to understanding how various populations engage in PA and SB, investigating the factors influencing these behaviours, and evaluating the efficacy of bespoke interventions. By concentrating on well-defined populations such as older adults, children, individuals with chronic conditions, or specific professional categories, the goal is to inform context-sensitive strategies and guidelines. Achieving these aims will not only improve health outcomes but also aid in decreasing the burden of disease at a global scale through a nuanced understanding of the nuances in PA and SB practices.

To further our understanding within the scope of tailored interventions targeting specific populations, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

o Innovative digital health, workplace, and community-based intervention strategies

o The relationship between PA/SB and health outcomes

Manuscripts should employ methodological rigor and provide novel insights with practical relevance, aiding in the formulation of policy, practice, and guiding future research pathways. The final collection should inform targeted, population-specific approaches essential for addressing the diverse needs and barriers present in various demographic groups.

Original research, systematic reviews, and intervention studies are particularly welcomed to drive the discourse and inform transformative strategies.
