These conditions can also impair vascularization, bone turnover, and cellular function, thereby compromising tissue healing and regeneration—particularly in endodontics and periodontics, where these effects are often bidirectional. Furthermore, systemic and local health factors may directly impact the integration and performance of biomaterials used in dental therapies. Genetic factors and overall systemic health play a crucial role in tissue repair, underscoring the importance of tailored regenerative strategies.

Consequently, research has increasingly focused on tissue engineering and regenerative approaches to address these challenges. Understanding the interactions between systemic health, local tissue environment, and biomaterial performance is essential for designing scaffolds that enhance tissue repair, modulate inflammation, control infection, and promote periodontal and endodontic regeneration in patients with compromised systemic conditions.

This research topic aims to advance strategies and materials for scaffold development that enable targeted drug delivery to control infection, promote immunomodulatory effects, and support angiogenesis and tissue repair/regeneration under systemic challenges. By integrating interdisciplinary research, this collection seeks to identify effective, biocompatible biomaterials and foster evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes through safe, personalized regenerative approaches.
