Asthma is a common condition which affects adults and children. At all ages, asthma is characterized by cough, wheeze and episodic shortness of breath, reversible airway obstruction on testing and response to medications including short acting beta agonists and inhaled corticosteroids. Despite the many common features of asthma between children and adults, there are some important differences (for example cough variant asthma, GERD relevant to adult but likely not pediatric asthma, etc). The aim is not to simply reproduce the many guidelines for asthma diagnosis and management.

In this Research Topic, we aim to cover the following components:

1. Epidemiology.
2. Approaches to asthma diagnosis in children and adults.
3. Use of symptoms scores, spirometry and other pulmonary function testing for monitoring.
4. Treatment of asthma in children and adults.
5. Severe asthma in children and adults.
6. Transition from pediatric to adult services.

Keywords: Asthma, child, adult, epidemiology, management
