High-quality training and continuous education for ophthalmologists, coupled with effective patient engagement, are fundamental to combating preventable vision loss and advancing eye care globally. Ophthalmology training and education must be technologically progressive and adaptive to equip practitioners with the expertise to leverage modern diagnostics and treatments. Crucially, eyecare professionals require ongoing access to the latest technological advancements and methodologies, while trainees need curricula that integrate technical proficiency with adaptive learning skills essential for a future healthcare landscape.

This Research Topic focuses on the application of cutting-edge technologies in ophthalmology training and education. Our focus spans two key areas: the training of professionals and the education of patients. Technologies of interest include: artificial intelligence (AI), large language models, big data analytics, internet-based platforms, telemedicine, tele-ophthalmology, and virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR).
