Carbon nanomaterials have rapidly risen as innovative tools in the field of tissue engineering, owing to their exceptional mechanical, electrical, and biocompatible properties. Graphene, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanodots, and their derivatives are at the forefront of research, demonstrating potential for mimicking the extracellular matrix and providing essential structural and signaling cues to cells. These materials also promise to revolutionize engineered tissues by enhancing their ability to monitor and adapt to physiological changes in real-time. Despite marked advances, significant questions remain regarding their long-term interactions with biological tissues, the mechanisms governing cellular responses, and the pathways to successful clinical adoption and regulatory approval.

This Research Topic aims to spotlight the latest progress, ongoing challenges, and future opportunities surrounding carbon nanomaterials in tissue engineering. The central goals include showcasing novel methodologies for synthesizing, functionalizing, and characterizing carbon-based nanomaterials, as well as exploring their wide-ranging biomedical applications.
