Emerging infectious diseases are a significant global health challenge, often arising from complex interactions at the interface of human, animal, and environmental health. The World Health Organisation's One Health framework, which recognises these interconnections, provides valuable insights and opportunities for advancing our understanding of infectious disease pathogenesis and for developing innovative therapeutic strategies.

This Research Topic welcomes contributions that elucidate the molecular, cellular, and immunological mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of new and re-emerging infectious agents, as well as studies focused on the development, evaluation, and optimisation of therapeutic interventions. We specifically encourage submissions that employ integrative One Health approaches—combining clinical, veterinary, and environmental sciences—to unravel how pathogens cross species barriers, adapt to new hosts, and drive disease outbreaks.

Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Mechanisms of pathogen emergence and host-pathogen interactions relevant to pathogenesis
• Impact of environmental and ecological factors on infectious disease dynamics
• Development of novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive strategies grounded in the One Health approach
• Translational research aimed at improving clinical outcomes and informing public health responses
• Case studies demonstrating integrated approaches to tackling complex infectious diseases
• Disease modelling, infrastructure strengthening and pandemic preparedness

We invite original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and informative case reports that advance the scientific understanding and clinical management of infectious diseases through the lens of pathogenesis and therapy, in alignment with the multidisciplinary mission of Frontiers in Medicine.
