The field of entomology, which encompasses the study of insects, is a critical area of research with significant implications for biodiversity, agriculture, and ecosystem health. Despite its importance, the representation of women in this field remains disproportionately low, with less than 30% of researchers worldwide being women. This gender disparity is largely attributed to enduring biases and stereotypes that dissuade women from pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Recent studies have underscored the necessity of gender equality in science to achieve sustainable development, as emphasized by UNESCO. While there have been strides in promoting gender equality, there remains a pressing need to dismantle stereotypes and encourage more women to enter and thrive in STEM fields. Current research highlights the diverse contributions of women in entomology, yet there is still a gap in recognizing and amplifying their work. This collection aims to address this gap by showcasing the innovative research conducted by women in insect science.

This research topic aims to celebrate and promote the contributions of women in the field of insect science. By providing a platform for women researchers, this collection seeks to highlight their diverse work across various subfields of entomology. The objective is to not only showcase advances in theory, experimentation, and methodology but also to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in insect science. Key questions include how gender diversity can enhance scientific inquiry and what unique perspectives women bring to entomological research.

To gather further insights in the representation and contributions of women in insect science, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
