Despite the success of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in controlling HIV replication, a definitive cure remains elusive due to the persistence of latent viral reservoirs and immune dysfunction. Recent advances in immunotherapy have opened new avenues for targeting these reservoirs and enhancing immune-mediated clearance of HIV-infected cells. From immune checkpoint blockade to T cell engagers, to engineered cellular therapies, the field is rapidly evolving, offering promising strategies to overcome the barriers to cure. This Research Topic aims to explore innovative immunotherapeutic approaches and their potential to transform HIV cure research.

This Research Topic seeks to address the critical challenge of eradicating HIV by leveraging the power of the immune system. We aim to highlight cutting-edge research that identifies and exploits novel immunological mechanisms and therapeutic targets. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue between immunologists, virologists, and clinical researchers, this issue will advance our understanding of how immune-based interventions can contribute to a HIV control and eradication. We particularly encourage submissions that present innovative strategies, mechanistic insights, and translational potential in the context of HIV immunotherapy.
