Decarbonization and the resulting energy transition being implemented in countries around the world are leading to significant changes in their energy mixes. The growing share of renewable energy sources, primarily wind and solar, exposes energy systems to fluctuations in generated power resulting from the dependence of renewable energy on weather conditions. Consequently, we are now facing unprecedented challenges. These primarily concern ensuring the operational stability of the power system and its physical resilience to disruptions. These factors, in turn, shape the country's energy security. These new challenges require new solutions that will enable the creation of a sustainable and resilient decarbonized energy infrastructure.

Goal:

The growing share of renewable energy sources in power systems requires the use of innovative solutions capable of stabilizing the system and ensuring its reliable operation. Primarily, these include energy storage systems, such as electrochemical batteries, hydrogen storage, or compressed air storage. Advanced energy management systems, microgrids, digital integration, and artificial intelligence can also be used. It is important to remember that the development of innovative technologies requires access to elements and materials that are often strategic and critical, and access to which also poses a significant challenge during the energy transition. It will be necessary to ensure responsible management of these resources, ensuring a sustainable, circular raw materials economy. These are conditions for the success of the global energy transition.

Scope and Information for Authors:

The main problem addressed in our special issue is the development and evaluation of modern methods and technologies ensuring the stable, reliable, and flexible operation of power systems with a high share of renewable energy sources. The aim of this Special Issue is to present and disseminate the latest achievements in the following fields:

• Solutions in methods for ensuring stable operation of power systems, energy management, storage, control, and modeling.
• Methods for maintaining conventional energy carriers in the energy generation structure.
• Presentation of advances in energy storage, theoretical, practical, simulation, and experimental research.
• System stability analysis and power system modeling.
• Intelligent energy management.
• Operation, recycling, and recovery of materials necessary for the development of technology used in modern power systems.
