The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has demonstrated its enormous potential to influence almost every aspect of psychology, both as a science and as a profession. We can assume that no academic, professional, or organizational context will be immune to its influence. However, this transformation requires careful scrutiny, as there are ethical considerations related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, or factors of professional intrusion inherent in the use of purely psychological tools by people from other fields without psychological training.

This Research Topic seeks to comprehensively examine the transformative impacts of AI on psychology, focusing on psychological science, professional practice and education/organizational dynamics. These topics range from the ethical, social, and psychological dimensions to how AI enhances academic activities, improves learning experiences, and drives psychological innovation. The research theme also encompasses cutting-edge research projects, technological developments, and empirical studies that demonstrate the integration of AI in the field of Psychology.

This research theme stimulates critical debate on the implications of AI in Psychology, aligning with community interests and promoting responsible innovation. It explores the profound ramifications of AI in different academic and professional fields, such as R&D&I (Research, Technological Development, and Innovation Transfer). By addressing ethical, social, and pedagogical considerations, it advances research and influences policy decisions. We aim to provide scholars and practitioners with the insights needed to navigate the changing landscape of human cognition, learning and workplace behavior in the digital age.

We invite interested parties to join us in exploring the advances of AI and its vast potential in academia. Together, we will explore the opportunities and challenges this technology presents, paving the way for a future where AI enhances psychological excellence, in line with the conference here:

The aims of the research topic covers a wide range of areas exploring the long-term implications of AI for the structure and development of Psychology, including:

• The AI-driven psychological revolution in the transformation of traditional roles and new models of professional practice.
• Psychological processes involved in the adoption of AI in academic and organizational environments.
• The potential of AI to transform and improve the different areas of psychological assessment and intervention (see Congress areas and emerging areas).
• The role of AI in accelerating psychological scientific discovery, pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and enabling new theoretical and empirical models of human behavior.
• Advancing academic research through AI-driven research initiatives and innovative research methods, utilizing massive data analysis.
• The cognitive skills and competencies needed to empower academics, practitioners, and innovators to thrive in an AI-driven world, applied to psychology.
• Ethical challenges and implications of AI-driven decision-making in the current psychological landscape: benefits, limitations, and dangers.

Crucially, all submissions must explicitly demonstrate a clear grounding in psychological concepts (e.g., cognition, motivation, organizational behavior, well-being). Manuscripts focusing solely on business strategy, economic outcomes, or technical AI development without a psychological focus will be considered out of scope.

Regarding article types, we are open to different research approaches and types of contributions, including:

• Original research articles on new findings and analyses about AI in psychology.
• Systematic reviews and meta-analyses on AI-related topics.
• Case studies detailing successful (or unsuccessful) implementations of AI in different fields of psychology.
• Methods articles validating new AI tools for psychological research.
• Conceptual analysis articles that explore the concepts and issues related to AI.
• We also welcome other standard Frontiers article types.
