About this Research Topic
In response to environmental exposure such as pathogen associated molecular pattern (PAMP) or damage associated molecular pattern (DAMP), immune cells process the resulting signal, including the innate response and adaptive immunity. In this way, a host can combat infection, inflammation, degeneration and cancer for survival, depending on sophisticated and balanced interactions among antigens, different cells, tissues and systems. Immune disorders usually originate from altered host responses to environmental exposure of endogenous and exogenous factors that mediate environment-signal-gene expression. Correction and prevention of immune disorders requires early analyses of environmental, genetic and epigenetic codes, followed by avoidance of PAMP or DAMP, prophylactic vaccination, pharmacological modulation, immunotherapy and/or therapeutic vaccination.
We are launching a Research Topic for Frontiers in Genetics with the scope focusing on epigenetic regulations in immune-related disorders. This Research Topic will welcome all aspects of environment-gene interaction on development, differentiation, inflammation, autoimmunity, infection and cancer immunity. In general, epigenetics is defined as the study of gene function alteration without the change of DNA sequence. Epigenetic regulation includes DNA methylation, histone modification and miRNA expression etc. Articles investigating epigenetic regulation in immune-related disorders, related to high-throughput technologies, such as NGS, microarray and mass spectrometry, related to mechanistic pathogenesis, or related to precision diagnosis and treatment of immune disorders are highly appreciated.
The topics of interested include but are not limited to the following:
1. Articles using high-throughput technologies to study epigenetic regulations in immune-related disorders
2. Articles using epigenetic markers as prediction and/or prognosis predictors of immune-related diseases, particularly describing developmental origin of health and disease (DOHaD) model.
3. Novel experimental and/or computational methodologies in epigenetic profiling of mechanistic or therapeutic regimens for immune disorders are also welcome.
