Triticeae crops are important grain crops worldwide. They are consistently challenged by various diseases and stresses, including pathogens, pests, salt, drought, low temperature, etc., during their whole life cycle. To combat these threats, the Triticeae crops have evolved their resistance system during their long-term evolutionary history. Meanwhile, artificial mutation in the modern period has accelerated the variation process.
In the breeding history, some excellent variations have been selected by breeders and used to improve people's lives. Particularly with the development of modern biotechnology and genome/transcriptome sequencing technology, it is expected that many more novel variations will emerge rapidly, and how to use them most efficiently in breeding, including genetic and molecular mechanisms, needs to be dissected.
This Research Topic will focus on articles that integrate identification of excellent variations, dissection of genetic and molecular mechanisms, and efficient breeding utilization in Triticeae crops. We welcome Original Research, Review, Perspective, and Opinion articles.
