The legume family contains a number of important crops as well as models for basic research into biological fixation of atmospheric nitrogen via symbioses with soil-borne microorganisms. The upcoming publications of several common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) genomes and for chickpea (Cicer arietinum) motivate this Legume Genome issue of Frontiers in Plant Genetics and Genomics. We welcome submissions of any articles describing research using data from any Legume genome, including Reviews, Mini-Reviews, Book Reviews, Commentaries, Perspectives, or other article types.
