About this Research Topic
Suicide is one of the few leading causes of death that have not diminished in USA in the past 10 years. It is also one of the top 5 causes of death worldwide in those under 35 years of age in both sexes. Suicide is a complex and dynamic behaviour with a delicate balance between precipitating, predisposing factors. This balance makes it difficult to make a personalised estimate of the risk. So much so that risk stratification systems have been revealed with very low predictive capacity and limited clinical utility. Studies on the efficacy of preventive measures and treatments for suicidal behaviour remain scarce. This likely relates to the systematic exclusion of suicidal patients from clinical trials. Recent awareness of suicide as a global health problem, the introduction of new drugs and the possibilities offered by digital monitoring advances have opened new opportunities in the area of suicidal behaviour.
The objective of this Research Topic is to move forward suicidology with proposals on new paradigm shifts. We are looking for systematic revisions, expert’s insight, innovative research in real world.
