The virus affects a large number of organs: pancreas, thyroid, adrenal glands, probably also the liver, spleen, brain and obviously immune cells, heart, and lungs. It interacts with the effects of sexual hormones. The sexual organs, via estrogen and testosterone, modulate proteins that are crucial for virus entry into the cells. The inter-organ crosstalk is gathering growing interest. Cells in the intestinal tract collect information on the virus and distribute the information throughout the body and brain. COVID is not a problem of a single organ, but of the whole body and the cross-talk between different organs may help to understand the so far frequently enigmatic clinical course.

We, therefore, call for research papers that contribute novel information on COVID – involving the endocrine system and connecting it with all parts of the body.
