Flexible Biosensors and Intelligent Medical Devices in Health and Disease

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely used in various branches of medicine attribute to the rapid development of computer hardware and machine learning algorithm. AI has shown its talents and proven its effectiveness in massive medical data mining, health monitoring, drug research, and clinical diagnosis. However, gathering valid medical data for artificial intelligence remain plenty of challenges. Insufficient amount of data, poor data quality, and inconsistent data standardization are still obstacles to AI development in healthcare, clinical diagnosis, and disease treatment. Real-time data can be collected from patients with wearable devices or flexible biosensors. With the help of transfer learning, health conditions can be fully analyzed and leading to a specific therapeutic scheme. The development of AI-based flexible biosensors will help to collect and analyzed clinical characteristics in specific disease properly, contributes to the integrated disease prevention and diagnosis system.

To establish individualized therapeutic strategies for patients, it requires not only innovative machine learning algorithm and high-performance data processing, but also the flexible data acquisition devices. Recently developed wearable medical devices and flexible biosensors were designed to improve the collecting and processing process for biomedical data. Healthcare robots and related AI-based technologies are essential strategies in healthcare, disease prevention, and surveillance. Here, we encourage researchers to submit their manuscripts which focus on research frontiers on AI-based bioengineering and biotechnology for medical application. Novel flexible sensors and intelligent medical devices are equally important. We sincerely hope that this issue will provide a platform for scholars and engineers in sharing their dedicated works in the fields.

The first three topics focus on intelligence medical hardware, the last three topics focus on intelligent medical diagnostic models. Other topics related to AI-based biomedical technology applied in medicine are also included.
