About this Research Topic
Inflammation plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of several vascular diseases through different mechanisms such as endothelial dysfunction, inflammatory cell infiltration, smooth muscle cell proliferation, etc. The inflammatory process constitutes a basic part of the pathogenic cascade of aortic diseases including those of aortic valve stenosis, atherosclerosis, and aortic aneurysms. Accumulating knowledge from various animal
disease models indicate that metabolism contributes to the inflammatory process during the development of cardiovascular diseases.
The scope and clinical potential for the treatment of cardiovascular disease require a clear understanding of the dynamic interaction between metabolism and cellular events on vascular beds. Furthermore, establishing a link between inflammation and immune signaling pathways will establish a strong association of molecular metabolism and pathophysiology of vascular diseases. This novel approach will give insights into molecular mechanisms contributing to the development of vascular diseases and their early diagnosis. In this Research Topic, we are interested to receive the research and review articles in the field of metabolism-mediated inflammation and immunity changes associated with vascular disease pathology.
The proposed topics of interest include, but not limited to:
1. Molecular and cellular basis of the contribution of inflammation and Immune dysregulation in the initiation and progression of various vascular diseases.
2. Perspectives on adipose biology and obesity, insulin resistance, lipodystrophy-related inflammation, and immune reaction to the development of the vascular disease.
3. The genetic basis of metabolic diseases linked to inflammation and immunity and vascular/aortic pathology.
4. Metabolic nature of lipids, phospholipids, lipoproteins, and other free fatty acids in inducing inflammatory and immune events in vascular calcification, atheroma, vascular remodeling, etc.,
5. Role of autophagy and mitophagy in inflammation, immunity, and vascular diseases.
6. Metabolic dysregulation associated immune pathologies by oxidative stress.
7. Lifestyle factors that determine gut microbial metabolism and the association of immune status which has cardiovascular disease relevance.
8. Genetic and genomic approaches and other omics tools to study cardiovascular- metabolic diseases.
9. Translational implications of controlling inflammatory and immune-mediated vascular diseases by the regimens of manipulated diets.
