Energy communities are a modern reorganization of local energy systems to integrate distributed energy resources; a reorganization that plays a strategic role in helping people around the world in the transition process towards sustainable and renewable energies.The benefits of citizens participating in these communities are manifold, eg. environmental sustainability, greenhouse gas emission reduction, exploitation of renewable energy resources, awareness in action as global consumers, increase in energy efficiency, reduction own energy consumption and bill.
Implementing energy communities on a very large scale, beyond mere good ideas, requires enabling technologies, capable of solving technical and practical issues. Many of these technologies already exist (cloud platforms, IoTs, edge devices) but may require an economic commitment that is probably not compatible with the real context of local energy communities, often consisting mainly of residential users. For this reason, it is necessary to share as much as possible the most recent and advanced technological solutions, scalable and at low cost, along with best practices.
The expected submissions focus on the establishment of energy communities in both developed and emerging countries and, in particular, on the following:
- current enabling hardware and software technologies, eg. peer-to-peer, blockchain, smart contract, IoT, digital twins, real smart metering, cloud platforms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, humans-in-the-loop, e-participation, etc;
- business models and financial risks, public-private agreements;
- recent solutions for consumers engagement, including social science approaches;
- winning strategies and best practices
