Trace elements are essential for human and animal health. They play an important role in the body's immune system, including the function of immune cells, the regulation of related signal pathways, and the completion of various immune responses. Trace elements are also keys to the occurrence of various diseases, including infectious diseases, toxic diseases, and metabolic diseases et al. Research has shown that trace elements can protect human and animal health by regulating the immune system against the aforementioned diseases. However, it remains largely unknown about the regulation of supplement or lack of trace elements on the immune response with epithelial cells, macrophages, neutrophils, and other immune cells on different infectious diseases, toxic diseases, and metabolic diseases.
The goal of this Research Topic is to provide to the publication of fundamental research on the effects of trace elements on human and animal health with regulating the immune system. We will consider articles looking into the structure, function, and mechanism of the trace elements whose abundance will influence the regulation of the immune response for infectious diseases, toxic diseases, and metabolic diseases. We welcome papers dealing with the following subtopics:
• Effects and regulatory mechanisms of trace element deficiency on immune function in both animals and humans
• Effects of supplemental trace elements on immune responses
• The mechanism of supplement or lack of trace elements on immune cell functions
• The immune regulation mechanism of supplement or lack of trace elements for the occurrence and prevention of infectious diseases (viruses, bacteria, and parasites)
• Immunological regulation mechanism of supplementation or lack of trace elements on the occurrence and prevention of toxic diseases (heavy metals, microplastics, and other new environmental toxins)
• Immunological regulation mechanism of supplementation or deficiency of trace elements on the occurrence and prevention of nutritional metabolic diseases
