The key to agricultural informatization is the large-scale application of agricultural sensors, including spectral sensors and image sensors, which are now widely used in modern agriculture. However, most agricultural sensors face a series of bottlenecks in the field detection process, such as strong external interference, detection model drift, low data transmission efficiency, high sensor cost, and weak wearable performance. Breaking through the above key technical problems is the premise for sensors to be widely used in harsh agricultural environments such as fields and greenhouses.

This Research Topic aims to collect the latest technological advances in the research of agricultural sensors and information processing systems for field detection. We particularly encourage research that focuses on the following areas: (1) multi-source and multi-scale accurate perception technology for crop information, (2) advanced nondestructive testing technology with strong anti-interference ability and model adaptability, (3) efficient processing and transmission technology for massive data that can be used in field or greenhouse conditions, (4) low-cost special sensor chip and system for field detection, (5) wearable portable sensor for plants.

We welcome submissions of original research, review, mini-review, and methods papers related to the following areas, but not limited to:
• Terahertz and other advanced non-destructive sensing technologies
• Multi-scale image sensing technology
• Wearable biosensor technology
• Anti-interference precise detection model
• Mass data processing and transmission technology
• Low-cost sensor

Keywords: Terahertz, image sensing technology, wearable biosensor, Low-cost sensor, field detection

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
