About this Research Topic

Manuscript Submission Deadline 29 February 2024

This Research Topic is still accepting articles. For authors aiming to contribute, please submit your manuscript today

In recent years, there has been a lot of research activities at the intersection of multiple imaging modalities such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), MR guided focused ultra-sound (MRgFUS), MRI and positron-emission tomography (PET/MRI), magnetic particle imaging (MPI), and magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). The combination of these modalities allows acquisition of both metabolic data and high-contrast morphological images in a single exam which improves diagnostic accuracy and reduces false-positive rates. MRI-integrated modalities are used to analyze, evaluate, and treat a variety of cancers, as well as various neurological and cardiac conditions. Advances in hardware and software techniques resulted in novel modalities and increased their clinical feasibilities.

The goal of this Research Topic is to provide timely reviews and highlights of the available and emerging technologies at the intersection of different MRI-integrated modalities and associated hardware. Such integrated systems allow to leverage contemporary hardware, advanced acquisition/reconstruction technology and readily available computational power to maximize system performance, as well as help facilitating medical diagnosis, treatment, imaging results interpretations and clinical translations.

Submissions of original research are requested in areas including but not limited to the following:
• PET/MRI (RF coils and PET detectors)
• Magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) system and related hardware
• MRI/MPI (Hardware setup used in magnetic particle imaging (MPI), integrable in MRI)
• Functional MRI (MR-integrated fMRI setup)

Keywords: MRI, fMRI, PET/MRI, MRgFUS, MPI, MRE

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
