The alarming increase in childhood obesity worldwide, had contributed to the increased prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in children and adolescents. The role of obesity in the development of T2D through increase insulin resistance has been established and well studied in both adults and children. However, less is known about the role of obesity in type 1diabetes (T1D). Although T1D is traditionally considered a disease of lean people, overweight and obesity are becoming increasingly more common in individuals with T1D. The consequences of overweight or obesity in people with T1D are of particular concern, as they increase the risk of both diabetes-related and obesity-related complications, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and various types of cancer.
The theme of the proposed Research topic is to showcase research investigating the interplay of childhood obesity and different types of Pediatric Diabetes from the possible etiological effect to the possible influence on outcomes both short-term and long-term.
Manuscripts of interest:
Manuscripts investigating the interplay between childhood obesity/overweight and different syndromes of Pediatric Diabetes with regards to:
1- Epidemiological trends
2- Global differences
3- Clinical characteristics
4- Glycemic control
5- Diabetes-related complications
6- Obesity-related complications
7- Associated comorbidities
8- Obesity targeted therapy effects on Diabetes
9- Basic science-related manuscripts
