About this Research Topic
Beyond the undoubted ethical duty of achieving a fully inclusive personalized medicine, healthcare systems should no longer ignore the impact of patient gender on the complexity of care and the disease load, also for its economic implications.
This collection aims to investigate the state of the art on gender-based approaches in pathologies of surgical relevance with interest to all emerging issues, from specific preventive and diagnostic protocols to treatments, techniques, and outcomes. Contributions on the gender-related stratification in epidemiological analysis of surgical interest are also welcomed.
Specific areas of interest to this Research Topic include but are not limited to:
1. Surgical Considerations for Male and Female Gender Populations: Exploring the specific healthcare needs and surgical considerations for individual patients. Investigating potential disparities in access to surgical care, patient experiences, and outcomes.
2. Innovative Surgical Techniques and Technologies: Evaluating emerging approaches, such as minimally invasive procedures, robotic-assisted surgery, or tissue engineering, which may enhance surgical effectiveness while minimizing invasiveness and promoting better surgical outcomes and patient experiences for diverse gender populations.
3. Multidisciplinary Approaches to Gender Health Equity: Exploring the collaborative efforts among surgical specialties and other healthcare professionals in promoting gender health equity. Investigating integrated care models, multidisciplinary clinics, and comprehensive service delivery frameworks that contribute to personalized patient care.
4. Education and Training for Surgeons: Analyzing the impact of education and training programs on improving surgical competency and patient-centered care. Identifying opportunities to enhance knowledge, sensitivity, and skills among surgeons to ensure respectful and inclusive interactions with patients throughout their surgical journey.
International manuscripts are expected and can be submitted in the form of Original Research, Systematic Review, Review, Mini Review, Policy and Practice Review, Methods Article, Hypothesis and Theory, Perspective, Clinical Trial, Brief Research Report, Technology and Code, and Study Protocol.
