Immunotherapy is a fundamental approach to preventing and managing outbreaks of animal infectious diseases. Significant progress has been made in understanding the pathogenesis and immune mechanisms associated with various emerging pathogens in animals, including bacteria and viruses. Nevertheless, numerous novel pathogenic and immune mechanisms remain to be uncovered. Therefore, more effort is needed to prevent and control diseases in livestock and poultry by emphasizing the intricate interplay between host and pathogen, the host's immune responses to diseases, the strategies pathogens employ to circumvent the immune system, and the specific genes that influence pathogenicity.
This Research Topic aims to collect submissions that shed light on animal host innate and adaptive immunity reactions against pathogens. We are particularly interested in studies that elucidate how host immunity factors block intracellular pathogenic infections, as well as how these pathogens counteract host immunity in the long-term pathogen-host co-evolutionary processes. Through the in-depth dissection of pathogens-host proteins interaction/counteraction, we aim to uncover specific pathogenic mechanisms that can inform the development of novel anti-pathogen agents, such as vaccine candidates, drugs, and therapeutic antibodies. Our objective is to promote healthy animal production and prosperous growth. Additionally, we seek to explore diverse and innovative molecular diagnostic technologies designed for clinical diagnosis within the realm of animal infectious diseases. These advancements are poised to provide novel perspectives on the diagnosis of newly emerging or re-emerging animal infectious diseases, thereby enhancing the efficacy of detection and control measures.
Our focus encompasses animal-origin and zoonotic pathogens. Priority will be given to research on pathogenic mechanisms involving various emerging pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses, as well as investigations into the host's immune response mechanisms. It also includes the molecular mechanism research of bacteria and viruses in other pathogenic models, including alternative disease models, such as tumor models.
