About this Research Topic
The biomechanical properties of cells and their microenvironment determine cellular functions such as adhesion and motility under physiological and pathological conditions. The focus of this Research Topic is on investigating the mechanical properties of cells and their surrounding tissue from a cell biological, biophysical or material science perspective to provide a better understanding of the mechanical behaviors of cells and their tissue environment.
This Research Topic welcomes contributions exploring cells and tissues and their mechanical properties under normal physiological conditions and disease such as cancer or inflammation. Additionally, experimental and/or theoretical modelling of cell migration by alteration of mechanical properties are included. The modelling techniques and experimental characterizations of cells and their environmental tissue will be required for identifying a mechanics-function relationship within non-diseased and diseased cells and tissues at multiple scales and to develop a new overall picture of cellular motility from a biomechanical point of view.
