About this Research Topic
Graphene is a 2D sheet of carbons with atomic thickness that exhibits unique electrical, optical, mechanical, and thermal properties. It was discovered in 2004 through a process of scotch tape peeling. Since then, graphene and its oxidized derivatives such as graphene oxide (GO), have attracted significant scientific and technological interest in many fields. Through further functionalization of graphene and GO with various types of nanoparticle including noble metals, metal oxides, semiconducting nanoparticles, quantum dots and nanoclusters, it is possible to create a group of graphene nanocomposites that possess unique optical, electrical, and catalytic properties. In addition to graphene, these nanocomposites have found many promising applications in the development of sensing platforms.
This Research Topic focuses on recent advances in using graphene and graphene-based composites as emerging electrochemical sensing platforms for the detection of a wide range of analytes, with enhanced sensitivity and selectivity. This Research Topic welcomes contributions on the design, fabrication, characterization, and performance testing of graphene-based electrochemical sensors.
We encourage the submission of Original Research Articles, Reviews, and Mini-Reviews. In particular, we are looking for submissions describing novel applications of graphene and its nanocomposites in various types of electrochemical sensor including:
• Enzymatic biosensors
• Non-enzymatic sensors
• Aptamer-based sensors
• Solid-state sensors
