Worldwide, about 65 million people are affected by epilepsy, but epilepsy is also a frequent complaint in many animal species. The population prevalence of epilepsy in dogs is the same as in humans, and epilepsy is the most common chronic neurologic disease in dogs and cats with parallels to humans in many aspects. The life-long occurrence of epileptic seizures creates a large emotional and financial burden for caretakers and drives research efforts for a better understanding of the disease, and for better and more effective therapy.

We are seeking publications that explore the various aspects of epilepsy in animals. Suitable topics include, but are not limited to:
- Clinical manifestations
- Behavioral comorbidities
- Novel treatment approaches
- Electroencephalography
- Neuroimaging
- Pathophysiology and genetics

This research topic asks for novel and original contributions on all aspects of epilepsy in veterinary patients. Contributions of Original Research articles are encouraged. Reviews, Opinion articles and Case Reports may also be submitted.

Keywords: epilepsy, dogs, neuroimaging, clinical manifestation, behavioral comorbidity

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
